Mohammed Nekroumi, born in Fes/Morocco in 1961, is currently Chair for Text Analysis and Jurisprudence at the Department of Islamic Religious Studies, Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg. From 2011-2014 he has been working on a research project about Maqāṣid ethical principles in the Qur'an and contributing to the development of the Centres for Islamic Theology in Tübingen and Münster (Germany). He graduated from the University of Fes (Morocco) in 1985 (Master of Arts) and went on to study General Linguistics and Islamic Sciences at the French University of Aix-en-Provence. After obtaining his PhD in France in 1996 he worked as a lecturer for Arabic linguistics and as a postdoctoral research fellow for Islamic Law at the Universities of Bonn and FU Berlin (Germany) from 1996 to 2010.
